We work in the local plant connected to our global manufacturing network to ensure the highest quality of raw materials, intermediates and finished products.

GENERAL SUMMARY :

The Maurice R. Hilleman Center for Vaccine Manufacturing is located in Durham, NC. This state-of-the-art facility established in 2004, manufactures our Company lifesaving vaccines in bulk and finished forms. Due to the importance of this facility in the Vaccine Manufacturing network, the facility has seen rapid growth in production volumes and new employees over the last several years; currently Durham employs 1,000+ people. Our Company has an expansive vaccines portfolio and an exciting pipeline of human health vaccine candidates. This position will be part of a start-up team/facility manufacturing organization that brings these vaccines to people around the world.

The day shift Lead Production Technician supports the manufacturing process through hands-on media preparation, cell culture, bioreactor usage and/or purification, product inspection as well as other production-related activities. The ideal candidate for this position has shown outstanding performance in their work activities and has demonstrated an ability to lead and mentor fellow team members. Successful candidates have well-developed decision-making and problem-solving skills and in-depth knowledge of aseptic manufacturing.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Assists Manager with coordination of daily work schedules, coordinates processing activities across suites, and effectively communicates performance targets.
  • Assists Manager in leading a team-based culture through continuous improvement activities.
  • Assist Manager with facilitating shift change.
  • Observes critical processing steps and provides real-time feedback.
  • Completes environmental monitoring schedules for shift.
  • Performs inventory control and cycle counts. Resolves and reports issues with product accountability and SAP system discrepancies.
  • Executes real-time batch record review and is responsible for alarm monitoring and reconciliation.
  • Reviews and completes documentation to support production activities, including batch record events and management of forms and labels on the shop floor.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders and customers to resolve production-related issues.
  • Demonstrates a strong problem-solving ability to troubleshoot and communicate appropriately and effectively.
  • Conforms to established safety procedures in accordance with OSHA and other regulatory agencies.
  • Identifies and addresses compliance, environmental, safety, and process deviations as required and escalates to appropriate personnel.
  • Serves on safety, quality and other committees, if applicable.
  • Attends and actively participates in HAZOPS, waste walkthroughs, 5S, kaizen events, or any other operations, lean six-sigma, quality, safety or environmental training/initiatives, as required.
  • Assist with the closure and/or reduction of QN's.
  • Leads tasks to completion and can prioritize the work of others.
  • Subject Matter Expert in SAP (Forecasting, order release, KPIs).
  • Maintains training status and trains new members.
  • Experience with batch record execution, including good documentation practices


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :
  • High School Diploma or equivalent with 4 years experience working in the pharmaceutical industry and/or within aseptic clean room environments. OR
  • Bachelor degree in a technical field with 2 years experience working in the pharmaceutical industry and/or within aseptic clean room environments.
  • Candidates may be required to work in an aseptic gowning environment to perform job duties. Aseptic gowning requires that all skin and hair are covered through wearing the following: Beard/moustache cover, hair net, hood and face mask, goggles, jumpsuit, gloves and boots.
  • Candidates are willing and able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Candidates are willing to be vaccinated/blood tested for titer for products manufactured within the facility, if required.
  • Day shift schedule 6AM - 6:30PM, 2-2-3 rotating schedule including weekends and holidays.
  • Computer literacy in MS Office, Word, Outlook, and Excel.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
  • Demonstrated 2-4 years of leadership experience
  • Experience training others and/or leading hands-on or instructor-led training
  • BioWorks Certificate (working in an FDA regulated industry)
  • Certified Yellow Belt/Green Belt
  • Proficiency in the use of SAP in a manufacturing setting
  • Review of Paper or Electronic Batch Record
